In a year with COVID-19 challenges and a move to remote
learning, our district’s network and network related systems are more important
than ever! Educators and students alike rely on our network to access online
tools, curriculum and remote classrooms every day. This nominee is an excellent
choice for Santa Rosa County School Related Employee of the Year because he
routinely goes above and beyond to ensure the reliability of our network
infrastructure and provide that access. Within the past year, for example, this
nominee worked the entire length of spring break as part of a team dedicated to
standing up remote learning for students as part of the districts COVID
response. He has worked hours upon hours of overtime, taking time away from his
own family, to replace or repair malfunctioning equipment and perform essential
updates or upgrades so that internet downtime is avoided or minimized. He helped
plan for, and implement, METRO circuit speed upgrades around the district to
prepare for distance learning demands on the network. In the past year, this
nominee has also been responsible for implementing the new ITS ticketing system
(Incident IQ) to help speed up issue response times, designing and implementing
a new wireless authentication method with new SSIDs to improve network security,
rolled out the new 3CX VOIP phone system to multiple locations, configured new
XMC network management software for better visibility and reporting, and
implemented iBoss cloud filtering services so that remote learning students
could take home district laptops.
