Sonya Mitchell

West Navarre Primary

There are so many things that our nominee does that set her apart and make her worthy of being selected as the Santa Rosa County School Related Employee of the Year. The simplest way to explain it is that our nominee models the example that all of our staff, instructional, and non-instructional, try to meet every day and that is to treat all children like they are our own. Though you rarely hear our nominee say a word, her actions speak far more than 250 words. She leaves such an impression that I have even had parents ask if they can submit a nomination for her for this award. Working in a CBSA classroom is not the easiest of placements, but her compassion for each child is evident from the moment they arrive at school to the moment they leave. She greats each of her students in the morning with a hug out at car rider drop off to start the day off right. Once instruction starts, she practically functions as a second teacher in the classroom, as she operates with little to no instruction because she is already well-versed in the needs of her children. Our nominee truly sets the example each and every day as she nurtures but pushes each of her students to reach their maximum potential, just as she would do for her own children.
